Ambassador Wordsworth signed MoU on public sector reforms (02/10/2009)

“Good policy coordination and management are preconditions for improvements to public services." Anthony Smith, Director of Europe and Donor Relations Division of DFID

Stephen Wordsworth, Her Majesty's Ambassador to Serbia signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Serbian Government’s Secretary General, Tamara Stojcevic, granting 650,000 pounds to promote its public sector. The Memorandum between Serbian and British governments would enable reforms of General Secretariat’s policy, planning and monitoring sector.

This co-operation represents one more aspect of the UK support of Serbia’s EU integration process. Serbian Prime Minister, Mirko Cvetkovic, who attended the signing, said that in four to six years Serbia’s public sector will be efficient in all segments.

Anthony Smith, Director of Europe and Donor Relations Division of DFID, who attended the signing, expressed direct support of DFID to improving policy co-ordination capabilities in the Government of Serbia. He pointed out that “good policy coordination and management are preconditions for improvements to public services. By concentrating effort in this place, you will boost the quality of services affecting millions of people in your country for many years to come”.

Expected results of these reforms would be enabling the General Secretariat of Serbia to take a stronger role in policy management.
