HM Ambassador Stephen Wordsworth hosted a panel discussion and a reception to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge.

A panel discussion on “British-Serbian Relations: Past, Present, Future” has been moderated by a Chevening Scholar and a Cambridge graduate, historian Slobodan Markovic, with Ambassador Wordsworth, another Chevening Scholar, historian Cedomir Antic and Zivorad Kovacevic, President of the European Movement in Serbia participating. Serbian officials, representatives of the opposition, civil sector and media also participated in the discussion.

Guests at the reception, after the discussion, have been addressed by another Cambridge graduate, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vuk Jeremic, who has been presented a Cambridge sweatshirt to remind him of his days at Queen’s College. Serbian Minister of Education, Zarko Obradovic joined guests at the reception, as well as lecturers from the Belgrade University Faculty of Biology, who already commemorated a “Cambridge man”, Charles Darwin, earlier this year.

Ambassador Wordsworth reminded that Cambridge plays an important role through its exam system (Cambridge ESOL) and Cambridge University Press.
