Our role

British Embassy logo

The British Embassy represents the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ('Britain') in the Republic of Serbia.

We are responsible for building and developing contacts between our two countries at all levels - state, municipal and people-to-people links.

We analyse the political and economic situation in Serbia and send reports to our colleagues in London and the rest of Britain. We communicate British policy on issues that affect Serbia to citizens and institutions.

The HM Ambassador directs the work of the Embassy. He is the representative of the UK in Serbia.

Different parts of the Embassy have special roles:

The  Political Section  of the Embassy promotes bilateral political relations between UK and Serbia.

Our  Commercial Section  promotes British trade and investment.

The  Defence Section  promotes links between the armed forces in both countries.

The  Consular Section  provides advisory services and help to British citizens in Serbia.

Our  Visa Section  issues entry clearances for foreign nationals wishing to travel to the UK. It provides advice on all aspects of UK immigration requirements..

Development Section is working closely with local ministries to promote reform and greater prosperity in Serbia.

The Projects and Public Diplomacy Section provides information about Britain and British Government policies to the media and to the general public. It conducts Public Diplomacy and also manages FCO's development assistance programmes.

Our colleagues in British Council are responsible for promoting cultural, scientific and educational co-operation.
