Policing the minorities

The British Council in Serbia has an extensive track record in different aspects of governance reform, including help in police education reform. Project "Policing the Minorities", implemented in co-operation with the OSCE in the Police High School in Sremska Kamenica is a pilot project aiming to increase the level of sensitivity among police towards diversity, to encourage inclusion and increase numbers of minority candidates.

The project covers a number of different practical activities, such as:

  • conducting motivational campaign to increase minority representatives' enrolment in the police education system,
  • support to senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) management in development of the framework for an integrative approach to minorities' inclusion,
  • development of the Police Directorate framework for community projects in the diversity area,
  • study visit to the UK for Diversity Officers and senior management of the Police Directorate,
  • delivering minority/human rights awareness-raising course for MoI management,
  • capacity building programme for the group of Community Liaison officers, etc.
